The Burial Grounds of Sutherland
During the last few years I, with the help of others, have photographed the Burial Grounds in Sutherland. This work is now available to view.

This huge, unique, collection of photographs is an invaluable guide to the people of Sutherland. For many of those buried with a headstone prior to 1855, when official registration started in Scotland, a gravestone is the only record of their death. This makes this collection so important to the history of the county. Unlike earlier recordings, which only recorded those who were born pre 1855, this photographic collection takes us to more recent times.
The collection consists of nearly 6,000 photographs and transcriptions and these are displayed to members in a simple to use photo album format. The cost of maintaining this website plus the very large photo album site means a small charge is made. You only pay once - £6 UK – and you can view for the rest of life – or at least as long as the internet operates!
Your payment entitles you to a large PDF file index of each parish by surname and also by place name – which is emailed to you when payment is received. Plus entry to the photo albums where you will find both the photograph and a full transcription underneath each. In a few cases where I could not find the stone there may not be a photograph but there is information on the burial if the person was born pre-1855. I also hope to be able to find some of the missing in future days!
I have prepared a small sample album which you can view HERE
Together with the invaluable indexes they represent fantastic value for money! Purchasing a book would cost heaps more and be huge!
