'The descent from Gualin to Rhichonich is rapid - the Achriesgill water, by the side of which the road proceeds, forming several cascades which attract the attention of the tourist.  The Inn of Rhiconich stands near the end of Loch Inchard, which is a narrow inlet of the sea about four miles in length, indented on its northern side by the bays of Achriesgill, Badcall, and Lochbervie . . . Lochs More and Stack, and the river Laxford, a little further on, are waters of the first order .. . . At Laxford Bridge, the road from Lairg branches off to Scourie, where there is a tidy village and a good hotel.' (Tourists' Guide, 1883, Hew Morrison)
