I descend from a family of Murray's who lived in the Golspie area back in the early 1700s.  Prior to that the family were probably part of the Aberscross Murrays - undoubtedly servants to the main family. By the mid 1700s my branch of this family appear to be settled around Sallachy, Golspie - a muddy flat plain with the sea on one side and Culmaily on the other and not far from Aberscross. Records are very difficult at that time particularly in Golspie parish where mother's names do not appear in the church registers.  At the time of the Clearances the Murray family moved over to Rhemusaig, Rogart.  Not a great distance as the crow flies.  There will be always be doubt about my early beginnings but since around 1746 everything is documented and it is from this period forward which I have put on line for interested viewers to look at.

My main line of descent is:
William MURRAY married to Isabella MACKAY
Donald MURRAY married to Margaret MACKAY
William MURRAY married to Catherine GRANT
Alexander MURRAY married to Jane MACKENZIE
William MURRAY married to Margaret Ann MACKENZIE
From the main lines there are links to all known children

On most of the families I have further information.  Please contact me if you find any shared interests.

I also descend from the following families.
Mackenzie Family in Acheilidh, Rogart from pre 1745 and later at Torbreck, Rogart till 1950/60
Mackay Family at Torbreck, Rogart from at least 1750 probably earlier
Gordon Family at Cluaranich, Rogart from at least 1740s
Grant Family in Dornoch from at least late 1790s
Mackay Family in Kinnauld, Rogart
Mackay Family in Ardachu, Rogart
Anderson Family from Morayshire, a daughter of whom moved into Rogart in the mid 1700s and believed to be with at least her father

Two huge, stubborn, brick walls!!

One Irish great, great, great grandmother, Mary Jenny, presumably brought back to Rogart by her soldier husband Kenneth Mackenzie plus a great, great, great grandmother Janet Duff from goodness knows where - wife of Hector Grant, Shoemaker, Dornoch.

Have spent years looking for them - HELP!
